Does the software take up the other 7gig or so? I mean afterall it's a 20gig drive.

it's connected via usb to the ps3, yes. it does match very well, although it is polished metal rather than plastic, it matches pretty much perfectly and works just how you'd expect it to. no problems at all
like i said, its just the smart way of doing things. that was the ps3's drive is left for the games and demos it was meant for
