Replacing rear brake pads

Instead of making my own thread il post here

I will be changing my rear brake pads, and my front discs and pads. I have bought everything, then I read that apparantly when changing brakes I need new wheel bearings also. Can someone clarify whether it is when changing discs or pads i need new bearings?

Some rear discs have bearings in them. The disc slides over the stub axle and require a bearing, so if you change the disc you need a new bearing as trying to press the old one out usually destroys them.

So the disc is also the bearing carrier/backing plate on the axle? That just screams yo-yo job!

There are a fair few cars where the bearings are part of the brake disc or at least have to be removed (which is almost impossible without destroying them) to change the discs. Of course tell the customer this and they are quick to mouth off down the pub about what rip off merchants garages are as his mate tells him that he has changed hundreds of brakes and its only a 10 minute job, scoffing at the idea of the bearings being a issue.

Gaygle-

We are a general independent and we would charge £101, we also charge several pound less per hour then national average it just happens that the cost for this job is a bit higher then the normal rear pad job.
