Replica gun advice

Basically I have a very small collection of Old Wild West replica rifles. They are not blank firing and I just display them on the wall. Anyway the wife has been looking for a Xmas pressie for me and suggested I should collect a few pistols from that era. Again they will be just replicas not blank firers and be displayed on the wall or in a cabinent.

My question is this what is the law on these items at the moment? Are there any changes immanent that will make me have to give them up?

Seeing as this Government has either banned or taxed everything I thought I should ask first.

if you can get them and they don't fire blanks, ie are modified not to shoot anymore it's ok, i brought a replica .44 with a firing pin and hammer and it fired blanks - my dad took it to a policeman he knows and it has subsequently been confiscated. If it fires you can get up to 5 years in jail.

I thought replicas were illegal since you can use them for bank robberies? Or maybe that was 'cuz I was carrying one on the steet?

Just kidding, most sites selling them have an FAQ thing saying it's legal, any trouble you should quote it. You can have real guns modded so they can't actually fire that's probberly legal.

the VCR bill (violent crime reduction) may be banning immitation firearms (the sale of, not owning). the reason i said may is because ive only been intested in the effect the bill will have on airsoft, but since airsoft is getting an exclusion from the bill, i havnt kept track of the bill to see if all other imitation firearms would still be banned from sale or not.

anyway, if you manage to get an immitation firearm (ie, one that doesnt fire a blank, and cant be converted to fire live ammo) then there is nothing stoping you from keeping it, although if you do get one, dont go waving it around, there are people with airsoft guns whove had their door kicked in by armed police because someone passing their house saw a man with what looked like a real gun.
