Anyone got any experiences of reporting fraud cases on eBay to police?

Basically a buyer claimed item wasn’t delivered. Which the tracking for ages shows the item was not delivered. Didn’t have any updates for a very long time. I even went through the investigation process and got nothing. So buyer started claim with eBay and I refunded him as soon as I got the claim. Then he got his money left me with some bad feedback demanding apologies and stating that he didn’t get refund for ages (even though I refunded within a day) and that I was rude and unhelpful. All false.

this happened some time ago as I don’t check my eBay feedback that often. Then a few days ago I happened to check my feedback randomly and clearly saw the unfavourable feedback and started to ask for removal of it. Buyer put an even worse feedback on. So I got a bit upset and started to check details of the sale and found out that the item was MAGICALLY delivered and signed by the buyer the very next day my refund was made into his PayPal account and the same day he left me those nasty feedback.

So eBay has taken the feedback off and raised an internal report in the buyer. Now I am going through the PayPal side of things to recover my money. However what I believe the guy has done is refused the delivery and kept it in the depot for ages until I refunded. And the delivery company (Hermes) don’t track those instances and they got complacent in their investigation. That’s why the item was instantly delivered to the buyer as soon as he s got his money cos he has this calling card that can request delivery slot.

so it is clear to me he was trying to defraud me. He also tried to spin some story that his son took delivery and didn’t know about it. But the item is a baby seat, it’s big and he has had it for over 1 week so must been using it and playing ignorant is beyond reproach.

so just wondering if anyone got any experience on reporting crime. Is it central fraud police or local police? Etc

thanks.

Can't help on the police side of things.

This is the reason why I only use fully trackable courier services when I am selling anything over a price I'm "willing" to take a hit on. So for me, any sale over £50 and the only option I give them is RM Special Delivery.
I guess there isn't a way to mitigate someone simply not answering the door, however if buyer refuses a SD item then that is logged, so you can easily see. I'd expect the item to be returned to you more or less immediately in that case.
The only issue arises where Ebay expect a response to a request for refund in 8 days and RM are potentially still holding on to it - because they have failed to deliver for x number of days.

How could the buyer refuse delivery and get Hermes to keep it hanging around in the depot and then magically get them to deliver the next day? Doesn't sound overly plausible, if they refused delivery it would have been returned to you or as it's Hermes completely lost.

Probably not refused but just didn't answer the door.

But can you prove any of what you claim? I mean the courier might have just been slow and lazy and kept failing to deliver it so the buyer only has to say to the police that when he claimed from you for none delivery that he genuinely believed it was lost.

Why didnt you claim from the courier btw?

Couriers do funny things anyway. My father once ordered a chainsaw and it never arrived but tracking showed it had been delivered. He contacted the company who contacted the courier who said they left it on the front doorstep when my parents were out. Clearly somebody just walked off with before they got home...or so they thought. So they got another one delivered at no cost which arrived fine. Several months later my mother went into the greenhouse and found a new chainsaw in there - the missing one. At the time they claimed the genuinely believed they hadnt had the item

I think hermes would say 'attempted delivery' or something along those lines.

Police won't care surely

I honestly doubt the Police would do anything at all. This is for eBay to sort out.

This. They probably won't bother. You'd be surprised at the lack of capacity the Police have to deal with this sort of stuff even if you're correct and it is an actual crime.
