Need some help please.

Thinking of getting one of these cases but i will need to use the removable extra hd bracket as i'm getting a couple more hard drives.
I've got one of these motherboards, not sure what the form factor is called but think it is plain atx:

I am aware that the removable hd tray sits beneath the psu.
I need to know the distance from the bottom of the removable hd tray to the top of the motherboard so that i can ensure that it will fit in with my current cpu hs/fan.

Thanks
:)

Easier if you mention what cooler you are running, that way someone with the same socket as you will be able to confirm it, rather than just going by measurements. :)

The motherboard is a ATX form factor.

You could always mount the hard drives in the CD bay, not hard to do and can be done for free if you bungee mount them, or for small money in cheap caddies going right up to £35/£50 silencing enclosures with rubber mountings.

The Eclipse is nigh on perfect, it is highly adaptable. Personally buy the case and build the computer around it, you know it makes sense.

Thanks Yewen,

It's a freezer 64 pro for my socket 939 setp (in sig). I thought that it would depend where the cpu is placed on the motherboard too, or is it always the same place on all boards?

I second that, It is truly an excellent case.

As to whether you can use the extra hdd bays with a non stock cooler I don't think any will fit, judging solely by a quick glance there looks like it would be ight with even a low profile cooler let along a much larger cooler.

Thanks.
Can you install hard drives into the 2 external 3.5 bays? If so i can accommodate the drives without needing to resort to the 5.25s.

Yes they will fit fine. Just keep and eye on temps, they'll be in a tight space with a lack of airflow to keep them cool, I wouldn't use that space for your main drives personally.

Thanks. I don't like the idea of lack of airflow to the drives.
Can anyone recommend any cheap 5.35 to 3.25 bay converters that would get around this problem-type which would fit completely internally ie nothing with it's own faceplate?

Not in my opinion it isn't. Guess it may depend on what heatsink you are using, only time I'd consider using if I had a low heat gfx card in their, and have the rear fan as an intake going over the cpu which would then have the heat removed by the Psu.

Stick with the front as an intake and the rear as an outlet, you won't be disapointed!

sorry have not read the rest of the thread, but to fit that cooler you will need to remove the hard drive bracket below the psu im afraid, unless your cpu is located in a VERY obscure location :/

Thanks for the info. I will be getting a couple of hd anti-vibration rubber blocks for the hard drives from an electrical store which will allow them to fit into the spare 5.25" bays.

I moved my 2 raptors from the 3.5" bay at the bottom as there were already 2 x 7200.10's there, and there wasn't much cold air getting in. I mounted the 2 drives in my 5.25" bays with active cooling.

You need this.
Scythe Kama Bay Cooler with super quiet 120mm fan
It uses up 3 bays, so you can only have 1 optical.
It only needs 2 screws on either side to secure it.

That looks very similar to something I am attempting with Silentmaxxs in my S80b.

Do you reckon SilentMaax's don't increase temps significantly ? From the reviews I have read of products like these most of them are not very good (I believe Scythe has something out that is similar and which is pants) but I do remember reading very good things ages ago about the SilentMaax. But never actually knew anyone that used them.

Anyway, the big minus on my method if you are in a dusty room like mine is that the fan takes in a fair bit of dust and it's a real pain as you have to remove both sidepanels to get at the filter. Also even with a low noise 800rpm fan, and the door of the Mirage blocking out some noise, there is still slight turbulence through the Kama Bay grille. The fan is positioned too close to the grille really.

Just wondering if I would be better off getting a pair of SilentMaxx's ?

My raptor runs at 1 deg more and is considerably quieter.

My Caviar however is now totally inaudible at all times.

If you are using raptors then silencing them is hard, but if you are putting say a Seagate or Samsung drive in one then they are ideal.

The do not add too much heat to the drive, if you put a little air over them then the operating temperature is almost that of the drive outside of the caddy without airflow. :)

Been using these enclosures since early 2005 had not had any issues with them.

How are you measuring hard drive temperatures?

Also what are the drawbacks of having warm drives, do they run slower?

Thanks for the info.

I'll be installing a fan controller and one optical drives, leaving me with only 2 5.25 bays spare so can't go for that fan solution. I've gone for the nexus mounts you picture above rather than the crappy all rubber ones from the electrical store.
