Hey,

I'm looking to build a basic PC for my mum and a gaming PC for myself.

PC for mum £500 or lower if possible.

Office use, basic web development. Zero gaming. Run a Plex server on it with occasional transcoding. I will reuse her current case and probably power supply. Not sure if you can still get integrated graphics but if so, I can imagine that would suffice. No peripherals, monitor or Windows key needed.

Gaming PC for myself.

Been looking at a few builds here and a lot of the same bits keep coming up. These still the go to things?

MSI B450 MB
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT BLS4K8G4D32AESBK 3200 MHz, DDR4, DRAM 16gb
AMD 3600 or 3600x?
Some version of a RX 5700 XT - Opinions on the best one? I would like something on the quieter side if possible
Corsair RM650 PSU
Sabrent M.2 1tb SSD

Unsure on case, more interested in function over style regarding that. Currently have 2 24 inch monitors but will be looking to upgrade that soon as well. Keyboard, mouse, Windows, various other SSD's and HDD's already got.

Thank you for any advice.

3600. The main difference will be the cooler provided, as overclocking capability of Ryzen 3000 series isn't great, either normal or X series.
About the GPU, plenty of choice. 2 or 3 fans best. You can also adjust fan curves later.

rx 5700XT Nitro+ or Gigabyte Gaming OC . 3 yr warranty for both. Gigabyte has the better rma/customer support with rep on here. Nitro+ has the beefier PCB and Cooler

as for your Mums, intel 8400 if you can find it cheap somewhere and b360 board - 6 cores on there .

I’ll check those out. My mum is going to want something fairly future proof. I find even chrome seems to hog resources now! Would the 8400 be ok still? She does have a crappy gpu already. I could reuse that if it meant a better processor? One of the lower spec Ryzen 5’s maybe?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £304.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

+ Sabrent M.2 SSD
3400 has 4c/8t oppose to 8400's 6c/6t, if you go 3400 you could upgrade to 4000 series cpu in the future, maybe even 5000 series but im not 100% on that.

For yourself, try and push for 3700x if you can, extra 2 cores will be helpful in the future.

That sounds good for her. Nice to have a small upgrade route as well.

So I hav
just by a dell optimax for £200 with windows installed etx and i5

2400G £70 or 2400g for £116 and basic £50-60 B450 board. B450 Max is overkill for a basic desktop = £250 max

I might have undersold her needs a bit so a slightly better spec would probably be apreciated by her.
