Requesting a PAC

Hi,

I know that a PAC is valid for 30 days. Let's say I request my PAC on Saturday, 30days before the end of the 18months are up. Now, if I hold onto the PAC for 25 days before using it, am I charged for an additional 30 days ontop of the 25 days I waited (so another 55 days)? Or will the contract still end on the last day on the 18month minimum period? I'm a bit confused here. What I want to do is minimise the period I have to pay 2 companies line rental...

Cancel the contract (this shouldnt be a problem assuming you're currently in the last obligatory month thereof, and you never know they might offer you a better deal than the one you're looking to move to ;)) and you should still be able to use the phone on the original network until the end of your current billing cycle- ask them just to be sure.

Then, maybe a day before, go to company number 2 and sign up, assuming this is within the 30 days give them the PAC and job done, if somehow you've run over 30 days (but I don't see how that's possible) go back to company 1 and ask for another.

Under new regulations from OFCOM the transfer time has been cut dramatically to something like 2 hours (I think this is the case now anyway, pretty sure but don't quote me, I'm sure you can check this info on the net without much bother if you don't believe me lol)- not that your phone companies are likely to tell you that :p so in any event you won't be without the use of your number for too long.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me. Still, could be worse. And if you sign up for the new contract and give them the PAC code 2 days before the end of your existing one you'll still have full use on the original network right up until the new one adopts the number.
 
About to cancel my mobile contract (as it runs out in 30 days) do I Ask for a pac now? or not till later on? I have to write to o2 to cancel (cant do over phone). I didnt know u had to pay for a pac code? How much?

You can cancel O2 over the phone, I did about a month ago. You don't have to pay for a PAC.
