Rescuing a Hard Drive

Hello,

I've just found an old hard drive of mine that I'm hoping I might be able to recover for the sake of reminiscing on what I got up to back then. I broke it many years ago when, in my lazy youth, I was trying to plug the IDE cable in without looking, but ended up breaking a few of the pins. I tried (poorly) to solder the pins back on but unsurprisingly this didn't work.

The glimmer of hope that I am clinging to is that the PCB can be removed with a few screws once the small data cable is unplugged, as you can see below (not my hard drive in the picture):

Amazingly some of these ancient hard drives are being sold on eBay and in some cases just the PCB. But before I spend some money, I was wondering if any of you know if simply replacing the PCB would allow me to access the data on the hard drive, or is it not as simple as that (which I fear might be the case)?

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks,

Simon

Update: In case anyone finds this thread looking for advice, I managed to buy an almost identical hard drive, swapped the PCBs over and was able to access my original hard drive again!
