RESEARCH: What would you like to see on a cut-down server

I'm starting to produce a couple of install cd-roms for friends that want to install Linux on servers at their work. Now I can do a tailor made install for each one but thats quite a bit of hassle so I thought I would do a generic server install and just enable the services that they require.

The software is based on Linux From Scratch and uses the nALFS package manager.

The question is, what do you think should be installed on a general server?

I was thinking

Apache 1.* or 2.*?
MySQL
qMail
Samba?
wu-ftp
squirrel mail

What do you think?

apache 1.3.27 imo
proftpd over wu-ftp (personal preferance)

Yes to samba
Apache 2
I would use Oracle over mySQL but that's just a personal preference.
No X windows, Who ever needs more than 80 columns and 26 lines?

Apache 1 - latest version

qMail - yep

Samba

wu-ftp - PureFTPD suggests itself as better
squirrel mail - yep
webmin - to configure via web

Good idea. I've been meaning to download and actually use this instead of just looking at the screen shots. Is it any good?

There's also a neat popup killer for squid, I forget the name... It may actually just be called popup killer

How about SSH instead of Telnet as default? I don't know if it is already but might be a nice idea.

I dont think so, I reckon that because there are so many choices of mail server there is no-point installing one.
