Reservoir filling

Just a thought in anticipation of finishing my V12 project tomorrow (tubing arrival permitting).

As fluid in a tube will flow down with gravity, when filling a reservoir for the first time, should it be positioned above all other components and tubing within the loop?

While filling, what is to stop fluid draining out of a top mounted rad each time you attempt to top up?

I have a rule that red is before pump and slightly elevated. This ensures pump will never run dry.
