Am I the only one that NEVER uses the reset button?
I don't even have it connected to the motherboard.

Honestly what is the point when you can just restart via the OS or holding down the power button?

Because sometimes computers become unstable and you can't restart by the OS.
Therefore you use the reset button.

If you can restart by the OS you should always do so, because this shuts down Windows and the computer properly. The physical reset button is only for use in problematic situations.

I have to do it all the time when clocking and my system crashes because of instability.

if you cba to wait for it to shutdown properly? i sometimes use it when I need to restart and I have a billion programs open waiting to close

Possibly not a good idea for long term OS stability. Make sure your backup is good :D

My case doesn't have a reset button and it's never been a problem. As already stated if your PC completely locks up holding down the power button will turn it off.

I use it as it saves 5 seconds, and then another 2 or 3 as you have to press the button again to turn it back on. Reset does just that!

actually not always. Reset triggers a board reset (a soft reset, if you like) Powering off and on (waiting 20 secs before power on) performs what is more often known as a cold boot, especially if you pull the power lead before power back on.

Yeah I have to do this sometimes

Reset button is also handy if (ahem) your girlfriend/wife bursts into the room while you are watching something you shouldn't... ;)

I have to use my reset button every time I cold boot because Asus didn't release a bios for the P5ne-sli that works properly with 5850's.

^^ Good answer!

Last time my reset button got used was earlier on today when my son decided to see what the little button did... lol

Hardly ever use mine, unless something messes up. I always try and make sure it shuts down properly even if I have to wait a while.

I use to this a lot on my laptop couple of years back, one day it just messed up big time lost quite a lot of coursework which I had to hand in 3 days later...had to stay awake most of the night doing it again...sad times...
