Resetting service indicator

Hi,

I'm trying to reset the service indicator on my wifes 2003 VW polo but cant seem to do it. The handbook says either press and hold the trip then turn ignition on or either press the reset button, turn ignition on then turn the knob right.

I've tried this but the spanner service indicator still shows. Anyone know how i can get rid of it or do I have to take it to a dealer?

I've got same problem on gf's car. It's got FSH, but not through the dealer. I've got a feeling that onoly the dealer can reset it.

I know its no the same car, but my old Toledo (basically a Golf, so similarish) was hold down trip when you turn ignition on. I'd be suprised if they werent similar

Had to keep it held down for 10 seconds or so after turning ignition on though
