The battery has recently died in my key, meaning I could only open my door by actually using the key in the lock and that my central locking didn't work.

I've just bought a new battery and have put it in the key... but the central locking still isn't working. Any ideas how I can reset the key or the central locking so it picks up the key again?

Cheers:)

Try this:

Remove battery,
Reinsert battery
Press and hold button down (pointing it at the car/remote sensor) for more than five seconds.

This might only work though if your key has an eight character head marking (some have no marking, some have a 5 or 7 character marking). This is shown inside the key somewhere around where you put the battery. :)

The old battery is deffinately dead, the battery light on the fob doesn't light up at all with it in. With the new battery the battery light comes on and stays red for about 30secs then goes out.

I'll try disconnecting the car battery then doing it:)

As people have said its probably different for each car but for my old Astra it went something like:

-Stick key in ignition
-Turn to last click before engine fires
-Press and hold lock on the fob while its still in the ignition
-Car will lock and unlock itself

That "reprogrammed" the key.
