Resident Evil 4 Patch available..

Anyone having problems with this patch?

Screws up my game badly. All textures are black and only a few objects get rendered.

Can anyone confirm if you can play this at 1360*768 ?
Yes it does.

Got mine today.

Just edit the setuptool.ini file in the root of the game directory to whatever res you want as it only has a few ws res by default.

Also the game looks like the best of the lot but screenshots do not do it justice you have to play it with the official patch applied (takes ages for it to patch as well).

Looks as though Capcom have used shaders in places for rain and smoke.

Only poor elements are the pre-rendered cut scenes as they look grainy and low res so must be the PS2 ones upscaled to a higher res.

Controls are just like PS2 on a gamepad so easy to play as well.

Default install is 4.6GB.

Thanks mate, I will give it a go :)

Looks like I'm gonna need to play this through with no lighting...yay. Considering the game was designed around the lighting to create creepy environments, just not cool. Textures are just bad! Lighting would have covered them up too.

I've searched high and low and no one else has this problem. I've got a x1950 pro so shading etc is supported.

I have actually been playing this on my 2nd older HDTV PC (X1950Pro + 670J) and the lighting is there! It only appears on certain night-time/storm based levels though. Rest of the time the lighting is static anyway(same as the PS2 version).

You can mod the textures to high res ones but I tried that as per one of my earlier posts and it does not seem to work for me.

BTW I am playing this on a 40" HDTV so it is noticeable in places but still much better than the PS2 version upscaled via my PS3.

The PS2 cut scenes are really poor so compared to the low res textures do not seem that bad!!

Same problem. Using an x1800xt. Annoying as well cos it took ages for the patch to install :/

Can I ask how powerful a system you need to play this game?

I am considering getting it to play on my TV like you would a console version, just at 640x480.

My system is not very up to date, being a P4 2.6C, 1GB of RAM and worst of all, a Geforce4 Ti 4200 graphics card.

Considering the low resolution I want to play at, will my system be okay? And will my card provide the lighting effects or are they DX 9 only?

Thanks.

(ah, I see from the previous page that you need a PS 2.0 card... bugger!)

lighting effects and the card - works on an old system i just tried it on xp1800 512ram 4600ti but only after patching, was getting just black screens before i patched it up. Newer system and getting the same problems a few others have mentioned. seems like this patch was for older systems.

Don't like the recent Resident Evil games :(

I want the original Resident Evil GC remake on PC... currently playing RE on PSX.. looks poop, but still pwns :D

i still play RE2, 4 scenarios alternating paths true gameplay. SP at its finest. RE3 was good for a quick go but simply didnt have RE2's depth or RE's atmosphere. but you could pick up parts to build a couple of 'unique' guns.

dont mind me iam off to relive my childhood.

Thanks :) I guess I will have to get the game and try it.

What the hell are you on? The graphics look pretty good to me, and for goodness sake if the gameplay is decent does it really matter? (Within reason of course).

Nono, we should have both, gameplay and GFX.
The GFX for this is appaling

Yes I don't think it is asking too much for a 2007 PC game to look at least as good as it does running on ancient PS2 or Gamecube hardware.

Bear in mind that a lot of the appeal of this genre of games is their atmosphere. If the graphics are buggered up then the atmosphere is diminished or lost.
