Resident Evil 7

I just hope it isn't awful pure survival like Amnesia or something, such a terrible game. Even the originals had pretty tense action for their time, hopefully they've just toned down the action and beefed up the survival.

Based on the stream I just saw of the demo, it is literally just the silent hill game renamed to Resident Evil.

Meh.

Why isn't it a RE game? Because it isn't third person?

I loved the vibe it has and can't wait to try the demo.

I have no problem with it being 1st person but Resident Evil fans are very passionate, even though I don't particularly care for the franchise I agree that being 1st person doesn't make it a true Resident Evil game, a spin-off maybe, but not part of the main series.

If they they want to make a game that is nothing like resident evil, they should just make a new IP.

That trailer was for a silent hill game, not resident evil. Just does not fit or work for me.

Playing the demo and it's pretty good, yes there are strong PT vibes but as a fan of the series it certainly feels like RE and is something fresh game play wise.

Im sold.

So this is being made playable in VR, this will make you **** your pants in VR.

That is a big game for PSVR.. I'll download the demo later and give it a go.

...Amnesia or something, such a terrible game.

I would argue that Amnesia does survival horror better than any of the games past Resident Evil 2. There is no horror in what Resident Evil had become, just action. I loved the gameplay of Resident Evil 4 but I'd go one further and say that I think that game is more of a departure from the survival horror of the early games than what I've seen of Resident Evil 7.

Will get to play the demo later tonight when the kids go to bed but I would wager that more Resident Evil fans will like this game than any of the last few entries in the series. At the game shop I work at we still have brand new, four year old copies of Resident Evil 6 that we can't even sell, even though it's priced at £1.

...wish I could get this demo on my Rift!

I would say this is a very loose use of the word 'demo'. It doesn't last long at all, it's possible to get it done in a first playthrough in 10-15 minutes.

This just isn't true. It definitely leaned a bit more towards action, but to say it had NO horror or that it was JUST action is incredibly ridiculous.

Anyways, just played the demo. Good atmosphere, felt extremely claustrophobic, but there really wasn't much to it. No enemies, no puzzles, no real gameplay except for walking around with a really minimal amount of interaction with a few objects.

The control settings have 'aim assist' as an option, so obviously the game WILL have shooting, but this demo doesn't demonstrate any of that.

I dont really know what to think. One of the PSVR experiences that had been demo'd for a while(I think starting since last E3) was the Kitchen demo. This is obviously an extension of that, but I'm not sure if this was born from that, or whether the Kitchen demo was *always* just a little snippet of RE7 that they showed without giving the gag away in terms of what it really was.

Either way, I really want to see more before I judge anything. Right now, it really couldn't feel farther from a RE game if they tried. I dont mind them going in a different direction, but it has to tie in somehow. They cant just abandon everything about RE.

EDIT: So it looks like PSVR Kitchen demo was *always* intended to be a part of RE7, meaning this has likely been in development a good while before that came out. Interesting.

Problem is Resident Evil has always been about the action, survival and horror was always secondary. The game doesn't even seem to tie in with the franchise's story nor are the characters interesting. Is this a reboot or something?

Also looks like the whole reason they butchered the gameplay is VR. Like I needed more reasons to dislike that gimmick...

I wont take the bait on the 'gimmick' comment. It's really anything but.

But anyways, what's funny about arguments they switched to 1st person for VR - classic RE, fixed angle 3rd person would have been PERFECT for VR. There's an Oculus game Chronos that does fixed angle 3rd person wonderfully. Of course, this might have been a bit 'dated' for non-VR players, so 1st person was chosen to appease all players, but still - 3rd person works in VR, too. It is not necessary to completely ditch it if you want to do VR.
