Resignation advice!

sorry to hijack this thread but my fiance is also worrying about notice periods and all that atm...hes been under a lot of stress in his job and basically being bullied by his general manager...hes going to resign tomorrow but under the circumstances i dont think he should be going back in to work any notice... other than refusing a reference are there any other negative outcomes that may affect him?

If he's being bullied to the point of leaving, he should consider a claim for constructive dismissal.

i've just shown him this and he says thanks for the reply however at the moment he is a uni student and this is only a part time job and hes just at the point now where he just wants to leave and forget about it .. hes just concerned now about not giving notice :S

Thanks for the replies guys, as I said, I am asking first and not intending to be unprofessional about it. I dont really think its fair to drag that kind of debate in here really when I have only given a very light backstory, there have been quite a lot of breaches of my contract and strange goings on to start with by the employer, so that could probably be used in my favour if they tried to get me to work longer (which I doubt they will anyway).

Thanks again for the advice. :)

Having been at my current job just a few months, I decided that it wasnt for me (various reasons).

Due to this I am required to resign from my current job, which is a division of the Council

You mean you've heard about all the public sector cut backs :p

If its a part time student job, don't worry so much and explain that you will no longer be coming in. Unless its explicitly mentioned in the contract the notice period to be worked then do not worry. Otherwise explain that you will be leaving and is there any way the notice period can be shortened. Most places will not want to employ someone who does not want to work.
