If you had a desktop LCD running at 1280x1024 but had a projector only capable of 1024x768 - would it be possible to have both optimal resolutions running at the same time without any loss of quality in image output to the projector? ie the image isn't 'squeezed' or stretched to fit in any way.

Yes, use primary and secondary outputs. HTPC has DVI 1920x1080, monitor is 1280x1024 over VGA.

Exactly. I have my laptop runing at 1280x960 and occasionally plug in a 22" TFT to watch movies on which runs at 1680x1050. You just need to play around with extending your desktop to the second monitor in your display properties (sorry can't give you exact details as I'm at work and we still run NT4!)

And this is without loss of quality, squashed images, icons etc? Just through the XP ATi/nVidia settings etc? Are there any problems at all with running two different output resolutions on one system?

Thanks again.

Both displays are at native, so no.
