Hey guys i was wondering if you could help me with a problem i have?

I have a Samsung Syncmaster B2230HD monitor and a Geforce GT 545 graphics card (both of which support 1080p).

Anyway, i have my desktop resolution set to 1920 x 1080, which says recommended, but when i go to whatismyscreenresolution.com it says i am using 1536 x 864.

Is there anything i can do to get it to 1920 x 1080?

Cheers.

Hi there,

Are you using a VGA, HDMI or DVI connection to hook up your laptop to the screen?

Also, have you tried setting the resolution in the Nvidia control panel?

Thanks for your reply de niro,

It's a desktop pc and i'm using a hdmi lead.

In Nvidia Control panel it's already set to 1920 x 1080 but i have changed it around to a different resolution then saved it again at 1080, but that website still tells me i'm using 1536 x 864.

It's quite annoying to say the least.

Ah yes, a desktop - so it is. The 545 bit threw me off as they only come in OEM PCs and are not generally sold at retail.

First thing I would suggest is update the video driver to the most recent stable version. http://uk.geforce.com/drivers

I would also check with the Nvidia control panel "resize HDTV desktop" bit that overscan isn't giving you issues.

Do you have a DVI-D cable you could try out by any chance?

I updated to the latest drivers earlier on but the problem was still there unfortnately, i fiddled around with scaling and size settings in the control panel but nothing changed.

I don't have a DVI-D cable just a hdmi.

What is it reporting in the Screen resolution page (right click on desktop>screen resolution, on windows 7)?

Perhaps that webpage just isn't working correctly.

It says it's already on 1920 x 1080 (recommended) but other people have used that website and it shows them they are using the same resolution.

I first noticed it on a destkop background website where it said my res was 1536 x 864.

If i i change it to one res lower (1768 x 992) then the website tells me i'm using 1414 x 794.

Is that just the border of the browser?

Personally, I am using a 1920 pixel wide monitor too and with google chrome (full-screened so there isn't any border at the sides) I can see that imager run the full width of the monitor - without needing to scroll. Therefore, my monitor is certainly running at the correct 1920 horizontal resolution.

No it's a border on the sides of the image.

It's strange that Nvidia CP and Windows tell me i'm using 1920 x 1080 res but i'm actually not.

I tried using a different hdmi lead and putting it into a different socket with no avail.

i think it's something to do with the pc because when i select the source on my tv it says i'm using 1080p at 60 hz.

If you are pretty sure you aren't getting 1080p then I would strongly suggest investing in a DVI-D cable like this one. In my experience DVI is plug-and-play and gives the correct resolution - while HDMI isn't nearly as reliable and often requires some fiddling to get it right.

I may get that lead but i don't think it's my lead thats the problem.

Do you think it could have anything to do with my graphics card?

It says it supports 1080p so it shouldn't be the problem, i'm just running out of ideas.

Yea, the card can support 1080p over HDMI (2560x1600 over DVI) so the high resolution shouldn't be the issue.

Have you absolutely confirmed that your screen resolution isn't 1920x1080 (apart from that web app)? For example opening up a 1080p movie file at 1:1 pixel mapping or open a 1920x1080 image and see if it fills the screen.
