hmpf well i guess this could go in any number of sections but here would be more likely to see someone with the same issue maybe.

had my htpc connected to my tv via vga cable @ 1280x720, all's good no probs.

htpc ---> VGA cable ---> tv

so i went and bought an amp and now it's all hdmi

htpc --> hdmi cable --> amp --> hdmi cable --> tv

so as you would expect.

problem is that the display area is bigger than the tv display area, i.e. the edge of the desktop is cropped out (top bottom left and right), this is at 720 or 1080 (i).

i'm pretty stumped, just had a quick look around the software settings but there isn't anything really to change. onboard G45 chipset hdmi.

one thing i dont have any clue about would be any setting on the amp i need to look at. i can check the manual tomorrow i guess :o

any ideas :confused::(?

/edit, same prob as this guy i guess: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17710277
so it's the tv's problem or a driver problem?

Its called Overscan, and will either be a setting on your TV or you'll be able to change it in your gfx card settings screen. Look on you tv for something like "1:1" or "Full" anything that sounds like it affects the pixel ratio.

had a look before but couldn't spot anything, it's only a cheapo hannspree tv so i'm not expecting anything :(

any reason why the dvd player and vga work at 720 but not hdmi? (or not worth getting into?).

thanks for the post, i can look into it more now i know what it's called :)
