I've decided on a whim to take next week off as a major project is coming to completion and I'll be sitting around playing solitaire on my phone for the week. So if I'm going to do it, might as well do it where the sun shines and the bartenders are generous.

Having only been to Cyprus when I was younger, I'd like to go check it out, but the choice is overwhelming. Spent the morning researching and I'm still none the wiser. I'm sure some of you has been there and can recommend good places to go.

Basically all I'm looking for is a 4*+ hotel/resort which is all inclusive and right next to the beach. Very importantly, it has to be unpopular with 18-30 year olds and chav and rabble free. Ayia Napa and Coral Bay seems interesting. Any experiences there? Or any other recommendations?

Aiya nappa does not do 'non 18-30' does it? Was touted as the new Ibiza a few years ago (not that it is mind).

Ummm.....Ayia napa will be rammed with 18-30 year olds. It's a big clubbing/get smashed and get a shexy infection resort

Ah, good to know that. I'm not adversed to 20 year old girls sunbathing their lovelies but from experience upon experience it's generally not a good idea going to places frequented by the young crowd. Well, for me anyway.

Are you going by yourself?

If you want somewhere quiet but with plenty to do why not try one of the Greek islands, they are generally really nice. Corfu/Crete/Zakinthos etc

Went Nissi Beach which is about 2km up the road from Ayia Napa. Was perfect... away from the hustle and bustle, but was there if we fancied venturing in.

The hotel was gorgeous as well.

I've just got back from my honeymoon in Cyprus, we stayed at Constantinos the great which is in Protaras. It's 4*+ but listed at 5* within the hotel and deemed "one of the best" in Protaras. Due to the price there weren't many young couples, and it certainly wouldn't attract the "lads holiday" types.

It's about 10 minutes walk from Fig tree bay, and about 1-2 minutes walk to the "D" which is the main section of Protaras. Full of places to eat, drink and shop.

We didn't go with First choice, but here's their info:

We did a couple of day trips, up to the North and a jeep safari to Troodos mountains which were both excellent.

been at protaras twice, very good resort for someone who is quiet and want to stay away from 18-30 clubbings. lots of things in protaras to see. stayed at rising star and kapetanios bay hotel. both were good

i also stayed at aktea apartment near ayia napa, probably best hotel i've been. right next to nissi beach hotel located in nissi beach bay. i prefer protaras overall

Nissi beach is an awesome beach and its close enough to Ayai Napa to venture in but far enough to retreat from all the noise and nob heads

Touts in Ayai Napa though, my god they are annoying

not really, LOADS of cig butts and empty bottles on sand/sea at nissi beach. fig tree beach is far cleaner, other beach called konnos beach is very good

My parents were on the beach at Coral Bay earlier when I rang them. They said that the beach isn't very good this year, all of the sand has gone and it's really stony. I guess if you stay in a hotel in the area it will be quiet, and it's easy to get to Paphos if you want some bustle. If you want true quietness though you may wish to stay on the north coast in a place like Latchi or Polis - these will be very quiet areas!

I was in Limassol earlier this year. The promenade, or 28th October, has become a cruising ground for the locals in their chavvy cars! The beaches aren't so nice around there either. Ladies mile might be ok but it has been a while since I went. I know the old town centre is undergoing a massive restoration, it might be finished by now and will be worth checking out.
