what's the difference between response time and input lag?

I'm taking a look at the tftcentral review of the dell u2711 and this comment:

Response time was good, although there was some noticeable issues with dark RTC overshoot and trailing. Input lag was also mediocre ...

In terms of gaming how will that affect me?

without meaning to pimp it, have a read in the specs section which explains more. response time is about pixel responses and delays which can lead ot blurring, trailing and ghosting issues. input lag relates to the delay of the screen behind an input command. it should explain it more in that section and input lag is talked about in this bit

As TFT Central point out in the review the input lag measurements are difficult to quantify accurately and moreover not everyone is particularly sensitive to it. Many people can get along just fine with 20-30ms delays on the games they play. We are lucky to live in a country with laws such as DSR which will allow you to try the product you buy online and decide within a week whether you want to keep it. That is oversimplified actually - the legislation is there for consumer protection, but it's good to be aware of and is the only way you will know for sure if a product is really for you.
