Restart/Shutdown delay

Hey there, as the title says, all of a sudden my PC has started taking it's time with shutting down and restarting.

The actual leaving the desktop shutdown part is normal, but once it gets to the point where it would normally completely power off the system, it hangs with all the fans still running and power still going to PCI slots (lights on soundcard still lit for example). The monitor will switch off as normal.
I then have to hold the PC's power button to switch it off completely.

When restarting, it'll do the above but with the exception that it'll take it's time to switch off then it'll wait for a few seconds before powering up again.
It also seems to take a little more time to reach the bios screen.

This started the other day after I installed a fan without touching anything else. I have since installed a new cooler which involved removing/reinstalling the mobo, so I know that everything is plugged in properly and all in order.
No new software has been installed, and virus scans come up clean.

System specs are in my sig and Win7 64 HP is running on the SSD if that helps :)

Cheers for any advice.

lol, I was thinking about it.
I'll continue the investigation for a day or two and if nothing crops up I'll do that.

I also tried setting the registry to clear the pagefile on shutdown, but no joy there.

Yeah, all 7 of them :D (3 on a powered splitter, 2 on a passive splitter and 2 direct to mobo)
I unplugged them all and still the same.

So I figured what the hell and reinstalled windows, but alas, joy remains a stranger...

Now for some reason the mouse needs to be unplugged - plugged back to be recognised whenever I turn it on.
All the mobo and other drivers are installed and up to date.

It works perfectly well otherwise.

On the bright side though, I did find out that my K2 with all 3 fans switched off keeps the CPU under 37C at 24C ambient... Nice.

Do you have any other devices plugged in via USB? When I have my phone plugged in it creates a huge startup and shutdown delay. I still haven't found a fix. :(

Since you took the motherboard out it sounds like something is not being performing right with the hardware... I'd try reseating everything and swap the RAM sticks around, try it with just one, then two, etc.

Sometimes it can be fussy about the configuration of the hard drives, if it's plugged into a different SATA port for example especially if it's overclocked. Try setting everything to defaults in the BIOS and clearing CMOS ram. Try a different SATA cable, etc.

Everything was put back where it was and the mobo removal happened after the issue started so I was very sure to put it all back properly.

I also reset the mobo to defaults before reinstalling windows. No change, so I OC'd it again :D

Cheers though :) On the plus side, I now have 36Gb free on the SSD after reinstalling and changing the Virtual Memory settings.

Where's Columbo when you need him? Either him or Quincy would get to bottom of this...
