Had random thoughts when ive been driving around in my crappy little car, been thinking that when it comes to buying a new one ill buy a new one but i wont get anything for mine if im honest but id like to do it up and restore it, change lots of parts, change most body panels, re allign the hinges, weld if needed then spraying the whole thing.

I want to do a proper job with a haynes book and some mechanical skill..

It would be something that id do out the back of the house but im well up for doing it, putting a bit of money into it, taking my time to do it up and when finished start to use it :D

Also give it a new engine and all that.

The car in question is the rust bucket thats gone from red to pink in 14 years, my fiat punto :)

Ive just fixed the headlamp, the water spray and a rattling in the engine so now im on a roll :D

Ill do a huge job with it and list what i want to change and start slowly :)

What you guys think?

It's good to gain knowledge but when you do have another car you wont even be interested in touching your old one which you want to do up. Throwing money at it for little gain.

I wouldn't bother.
Restoring a car, even partially, is extremely expensive and time consuming. If you are going to restore something, restore something rare or interesting.

As much as I love my punto and spend many hours tinkering with it (mostly to keep it running) its not worth it. Some kind of project racer or a worthy classic definitely. A punto is really neither of those, it won't ever go fast and its hardly a classic.
A nice Mk1/2 golf with an engine swap a la L1J or something of similar ilk would be my choice, if I was lucky enough to have the time and the money!

This, I can tell you it is not a walk in the park. you need huge time and money and most importantly SPACE(covered weather proof space). Which is why I have totally give up on my project until I can afford a house with garage, or more likely a garage with a room.

just service it, keep it all mechanically bob on, t-cut it to get it back red and then wax it.

Aside from doing it to a worthless undesirable old Fiat, fully restoring a car is a mammoth task. You will underestimate the amount of time, money, and motivation it takes.
Most who take on this kind of thing will start it, lose motivation, go a long period of doing nothing on it, then give up when they realise they are way over their head.

Ive got a website for good cheep body panels in top cond, ive seen about nice body kits, engines etc etc very expensive overall, id be looking at 2k upwards but dosnt anyone here think after its done with a new interior and a completely new look will be worth it? If i can turn the car into my sig into something like this Obviously i dont want it to look like that, but i want something with custom bumpers side skirts etc nice small tidy ones with a nice colour to make it stand out..

Metalic blue with white stripes?

Ha, i dont know, seems like an idea worth looking at, couldnt i turn this into a project racer? Or would it tip to easy at the first sharp bend?

Headlamps like these.. Joint instead of seperate indicator lights.
How nice? click me

Vile. Bolting tat to a Punto is not "restoring" a car.
