Restoring hard drive image

I have a backup.img file, which is an image of my crashed Win XP drive. If I go into Windows 7 and mount the image, it won't let me copy the files across. I can see the directory tree but cannot navigate into Documents and Settings due to permission reasons.

So, I need to get this image on my E: drive, and extract that into the files and folders onto the spare space on my E: drive. Due to the permission problems, I figure I might need to do this using a linux bootcd, such as UBCD or Hiren's boot CD. After all, the image was made using Parted Magic from one of those CD's. In fact, its what I have loaded right now on my spare PC.

Anyone know how I can take that backup.img and extract it using one of these bootup CD's, Parted Magic or something similar?

Thanks,

Jon
