Hi all,

I've accidently erased the partition data on my 2 USB drives, but all of the data should still be in tact. Does anyone know of any free software that can restore the partition data to make the data readable?

Many thanks,

Michael.

Testdisk. Runs under linux, possibly under windows. I've used it successfully several times by basically guessing where to go on the menu.

Needless to say, do not write any data to the drives or recovery will be more difficult.

I don't suppose you keep a backup of the first 512 bytes of each drive do you? Long shot I know :)

If this fails, getdataback has worked alright for me, but I don't think it's free (used a friends machine to save my os disk)

JonJ678 is right.

Testdisk is an open source program available for both Linux and Windows. I've used it and it is pretty self explanitory.

GetDataBack is the other excellent alternative, though it is not free. This program helped me when it was beyond Testdisk. I had somehow lost the MFT and the backup of my girlfriends primary hard drive that has all her photos, music and hand drawn pictures on. I would not hav forgiven myself if it had gotten lost! Think GetDataBack is about £30 or so, but I'd definatly give Testdisk a go first before spunking any cash.
