How would I go about restricting my FPS in CS:S, usually games have the option in the video menu but there isn't one that I can find in CS..

Any help would be kool, the screen tearing is crazy

Just enable "wait for vsync" under the advanced graphics options tab. That should cap your fps at whatever frequencyt your moniter is set to (in my case, 60fps).

All you need to do is open console:

"fps_max 61" (for fps max 60)

vsync isn't very good.

As above "fps_max xx" in the console, best bet is usually 99fps or what ever your updaterate / cmdrate are set to altho some ppl say just below ** max fps or 60. Each to their own.

Thanks guys, I used the fps_max command.

I've set it to 59 fps ( monitor is 60 herts ) and i'm still getting screen tearing... could anything els be causing this?

It only happens in this game, all the others are fine

EDIT: This also happens ( only happened twice ) a quick minimize / maximize fix's this thou -

I'm not to bothered about pink stuff ( ), just the screen tearing.

You need to add some AA to source mate. Those jaggies would do my head in :p Have you tried forcing Vsync in the nvidia control panel ?

Yeah, I'd suggest you force the max aa in the nVidia cp too (especially as you have a gtx  ). Not sure about that pink stuff though.... I've only ever had something like that when I didn't reboot the game after changing some settings (although that's on a aceint version..).

*off topic* how did you get the lod style map, i dont really like the new graphical map*

the purple checkerboard often happens on shiny surfaces when you change a setting while in a game.

The pink stuff only happens sometimes. But good news! No more tearing :D

I didn't know vSync had anything to do with screen tearing, but that fixed it anyways. Also put some 16xQ AA and 16x AF on, but there's still jaggies! lol :p

I havn't done anything with my map, what's different about it?

Yeah I was changing video settings while in-game, so I guess thats the pink stuff explained

Just capping at 60fps will not stop tearing,as the gfx card is still not waiting for the start of the screen refresh as it does not know when.
It will only know with Vsync on.

As above tearing in css is fixed with about 4xAA. You shouldnt need to limit fps.

EDIT: whoch you have tryed, have you got quality on high quality ? in driver btw

Just set to quality, not high quality. All the in-game video settings are maxed out.

Meh, the graphics are fine for me in CS, tearing is gone = WIN :D

The graphics in my other games are a lot better tho, I dont evan know how old CS:S is
