ok my friend did a **** load of cw tonight but then shut down without saving at all, is there anyway she can retrieve it? would it be in temp docs or anything?

damn it, does microsoft not back-up unsaved work incase of like a crash or power failure? is there not a folder of that?

The best you can do is save often, if an ap has an autosave every so often feature it might keep it cached somewhere, but thats dependant on the ap.

Its not the OS's job to ensure you backup/save often enough... harsh but true... sorry.

If it was in Office then I believe it does make backups every so often, i've been working and seen it doing periodic saves.

Not sure where though, try searching the computer for files with the extension of the program you were using, e.g *.doc *.xls etc.

What app? I'm presuming it's Office?
I don't know if it's version dependent but autorecover should be enabled by default at 10 minute intervals.
When she re-opened word/excel did it not prompt her with a recovery option?
Check for autorecover files in C:\Documents and Settings\profile_name\Application Data\Microsoft\app_name\file_name .asd (Word) .xar(Excel)
Obv force them to open with the appropriate app if they're there.
