I'm thinking of getting an older console to have a play with as the current lot of games on the xbox 360 and Wii don't seem to be appealling that much to me. So wanted to hear any suggestion for what console to go for and the games to look out for

The consoles i had in mind were Playstation 1, Sega Saturn or SNES would consider any other suggestions as long as they aren't too pricey. I do quite like the idea of buying the Saturn as i used to own one but most of the games i want to get Burning Rangers, Radiant Silvergun, Panzer Dragoon are all rather pricy so started to think about the Snes and Playstation.

Im gonna say SNES for no other reason as it is my favourite console of all time and I have completed Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past more than any other game I have ever played.

Seriously though, SNES, Genesis and PSX are all cracking machines of which I still own myself. :D

Buy some points for the Wii virtual console?

Nintendo 64 with Goldeneye, Conkers Bad Fur day, mario 64, paper mario, zelda, diddy kong racing, wave race, excite bike.

Dreamcast with Daytona USA, Soul Caliber, Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Bangi O, REZ.

SNES with mario Kart, mario world, ghools and ghosts, super tennis, secret of mana, chrono trigger, R-type III, space invaders!

I saw a Dreamcast for sale in the smaller high street gaming shop (now part of the bigger one) for £20 with a game i was very tempted but i dont have enough time for my PS3 at the mo let alone Dreamcast aswell.

I'm not going to get a dreamcast as i owned one a two years ago and picked up most of the games i liked at the time. Quite a few people have voted for the saturn so will have another look at the game prices, part of the reason of getting an old system is so the games are cheaper.

Quite supprised no suggested the playstation as i was leaning that way as i've never owned one*. If i did go for it other than the big name games like Resident Evil, Grand Turismo what would people suggest.

* I've so far refussed to buy Sony since they destroyed sega and my beloved Saturn and Dreamcast.

Personally I'd get a SNES and play through all the old RPGs. Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Time, Terranigma, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, etc, you'd have enough to keep you going for months/years.

NES :) old skool mario bros and mario bros 3 (2 was just wierd!), battle toads, boulder dash, duck hunt, metroid, solar jetman etc etc etc :D

If you want old skool mario, still get the SNES and pick up a copy of Mario All Stars :)

SNES - Best games console of all time fullstop.

Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2 : Yoshi's Island
Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3
Killer Instinct
Super Metroid
Secret of Evermore
StarWing
Mario Allstars
F-Zero
Wario's Woods
Pilotwings

etc.etc.etc....

lol but its just not quite the same. having the original and using the original controller's has always been my preference with retro :) otherwise it starts to feel like some dodgy rip or port or even emu + rom

SNES > Dreamcast > N64

All you need to get and in that order I think. For me the SNES is still the greatest console ever but the other two ate up a heck of a lot of my time too.

Or how about an original Gameboy with Tetris and Super Mario Land 1+2. Brilliant.

Battery back up on the SNES version is nice though.

Meh, each to their own and all that, but I never had any issues when I picked up Allstars back when I had a SNES. Plus you also get the Lost Levels :)
