Someone somewhere has completely lost the plot regarding retro cool and things have spiralled downhill. Now we see pictures of slammed Renault 5's that couldn't break a cobweb.

I don't have a problem with genuinelly cherished, nice examples of older cars so thats not very relevant. My opinions are based on the stuff you post. That Sierra for example is a perfect example of a great bangernomics car. To suggest its anything other than this is daft.
That Sierra is a genuinely cherished, nice example of a Sierra.

In what way is it a 'bangernomics' car? Is it on it's last legs? Is it being treated like crap? Is it going to fail its next MOT? If it were a Cosworth you'd have nothing but good things to say about it...Or is it because it isn't stock?

I like nice things.

You really are crap at reading people. If that were the case I'd be really rather annoyed given I've never owned a top of the range car.
When you had your Mondeo, you yearned for an ST. Now you have the 530, you harp on about an M5; you want something top of the range rather than being happy with what you have.

Whats the point? It is not notable, it is not an important part of motoring history, it has no cult status, it does nothing better than a more modern version of the same thing. It is an old base model Renault 5. Excellent for a 100 quid hack, but nothing more.

Every car is relevent; if we don't enjoy them all then there will be nothing left but the few which have specialist interest clubs.

A mkII Escort on that Minilites. Yawn.

That would stand out about as much at a show as Fox's car would at a carpet sales conference.

Like Fox, I fear that you have formed your own assumption of what 'retro' is without any knowledge of it, the people within the scene, the cars within the scene and the sheer length and breadth of the variety of cars within the scene.

I'm stopping there because I ****ing hate the term scene.

It's a bangernomics car becuase it has a value of a couple of hundred quid. If it was going to be treated like crap or fail its next MOT it would be a poor bangernomics car. Instead, its a tidy Sierra, a perfect bangernomics car.

When you had your Mondeo, you yearned for an ST.

No I didn't. I never wanted an ST and said as much many times - the specification level is poor.

You honestly think I'm not happy with my car? This is the funny thing about this forum - everyone has a different opinion on what I 'think' and most of them contradict each other. I absolutely LOVE my car. I wouldnt change it for anything. Not even an M5 at this point in my life. It is perfect.

It's getting very catty in here recently. Why don't some of you go down the garage and get your hands dirty so we don't have to listen to your repetitive "my car is better than your car" rubbish any more?

This seems a little hypocritical - its obviously a nice-looking car, just because its a 'common' classic, on the de-facto wheel choice you deem it not 'individual' enough.

Catty? It's not personal imo, all friendly.

Although your comment of getting down the garage is rather odd. What has that got to do with retro?

If you could point out the 'my car is better than your car' rubbish I'd be grateful as I can't see any. Merlin will infact be happy to tell you how much he dislikes his car.

Contrary to your obvious misunderstanding, 'I think that looks cack' does not mean 'MY CAR IS BETTER THAN YOURS, LOL'.

Sorry - I was stuck in Fox mode ;)

At Ford shows, 'south london look' Escorts, Anglias et cetera don't get a second glance from me. In fact I can't recall the last Escort that genuinely interested me...Yes, they can be impeccably finished and yes, some may be rather fast but when it looks the same as the 50 cars parked next to it, it does nothing for me.

The post you made about ten minutes ago about my wheels when I questioned yours?

Come on, boyo. Your memory sucks.

you are actually a snob.

But more so than a badge snob, you look down on cars merely for not being top-of-the-range.

Can you tell me why a 1 litre 5 is any less worthy of being owned, cared for, run, maintained and enthused over than a GTT?

I suspect you can't.

Now now, don't start making yourself look silly ;)

Thats in a different thread. :\

I suspect Jonny was talking about the forum as a whole and not this thread specifically.

Have a 2 on the relevance scale.

I didn't criticise them. I made no comment on my opinion of them. I merely questioned your definition of them as 'posh'.

One mans posh is another mans rat ;)

I didn't even specifically say they *were* posh, I just said all I had left to do really was mirrors and lowering, which is pretty much the case.

Fox I'm not going hunting through your posts for a literal example and I'm not going to get into an obsessive word war with you over exactly what I mean to say. The fact is these little 2 or 3-way justification arguments in the motors forum are starting to spoil the place again. And you can call it what you like mate, but you're normally involved.

Oh man. You have a go at fox for being a snob, yet you won't even appreciate a beautifully finished vehicle. You are too interested in unique so therefore are defining yourself as a snob as those common cars basically being beneath you. Shame on you.

Seems like your just another Cyber-mav, but for the motor forum.

I do appreciate that cool can come from cheap however. I have seen some lovely Dolomites and although common I still think they look cool, but that wouldn't be you because they are too common (as an example, I cannot read your mind here on your preference).
