Retrofit xenons to Mk4 Golf?

I looked at it, more expense than it's worth IMO.

If you want OEM install, you're looking at huuuuuuge sums for the projector headlamps and after that, the Depo units are meant to be fairly good but still not exactly super cheap.

You'll also find half the aftermarket ones seem to have stupid angel eye sidelights instead of normal ones, which makes them look completely retarded.

Pick up a set of genuine headlights secondhand your looking a best part of£300 or £500 new then you have to get all the ancillaries you'd be talking well over a grand for new parts all in probably around £500 secondhand they are awesome though had factory xenons on my old 4mo

As above really. HIDs are frowned upon on here i'm sure as well. I wouldn't bother and just get some Ozzy Nightbreakers.

And if you don't get the projectors you'll just be another chavvy golf on the road that the rest of us will be embarrassed about

Also I'd think projectors in a non r32 would look odd.

The headlights on my mk4 are amazing. Whats wrong with yours?

No, if you have Xenons you HAVE to have them.

Factory fitted or aftermarket, they are still required!

Wrong, MOT states:

A car with HID lights MAY also have headlight washers and self levelling which must be checked and in working order if fitted.

You'll only fail if your car came with washers and levelling and they are no longer working.

If you are thinking to go HID I recommend you search morimoto h1. TRS sell them and if you're willing to bake your headlights open they are a really easy to fit, and will give a brilliant Bi-xenon beam! No cutting or modding involved!

Yeah it does seem to be a bit pricey for the benefit. Especially when those Nightbreakers are <£20 and I've yet to try them!

Thanks for the tip.

Nothing, they're just not very bright :p

Ahh good info, I thought they were required. Will probably try upgrading the current ones, at £20 I can just go for it and keep the old ones as spares ;)

there are so many variants of OEM golf headlights, the ones that come in the 4motion/r32 with Xenons are spot onIMO as pictured above. but as said very expensive to go down the genuine parts route

closest match aftermarket would be the helix projector units for the mk4 which you can pick up for around £260 a pair new. genuine new headlights are something along the lines of £650 a pair retail atm, although you can get that down to £500 if you have access to a trade account(can help you there if you take a knock to the head and want to go down this road) or you might be worthwhile signing up somewhere like edition38 or ukmivs and trying to pick up a set from a breaking r32/4mo

bear in mind the £650/£500 prices i'm quoting are for headlights only, that doesn't include bulbs ballasts or wiring or time to program in via vagcom or similar, you really are looking at funny money, if you can pick up a complete set secondhand for a reasonable sum then great but they are like hens teeth and get snapped up pretty quickly

the v6 lower bumper really sets it off compared to the stock one
the lower section isn't that dear either, think the last one I picked up for a m8 was something silly like £25 on trade

theres the part no if anyones looking for one

and the rideheight was actually quite sensible tbh (well in terms of the vag sump hater scene)

heres some from my collection of properly low cars :)

I've been quite tempted to get the 4mo lower valance for mine, front and rear but rear would require an exhaust too to fill the cut out :p

In two minds whether i'd prefer it black or colour coded though!

The only real difference is the the two 'slots' either side on the front valance but they make a nice subtle difference to the front of the car.

Couldn't do the lip on mine, I have an irrational thing against trying to make a car look like a different model

Was the mk3 static at that height? Wishbones on mine were just beyond horizontal and it still had a passable ride. Miss that car

that mk3 was a daily driver on coils.

vag scene is utterly bonkers, one of the guys in my vw club has raised the engine on his bora and had his subframe modded to allow him to lower it further. nutters all of them

Ive seen some really dodgy strut tower mods where extra metal has been welded in in to raise the top of the tower and give more travel when stupidly low. Notching chassis legs for drive shafts and tie rods is just strange too
