Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me roughly how much it would cost to retro fit rear parking sensors to a MKIV Mondeo please? I'd want someone else to do the work since I'm useless with anything electrical!

Any help appreciated.

They are fairly easy, and it is definitely worth considering fitting them yourself. You can buy a half decent kit for around £45 iirc, and it is just a case of putting the speaker/display unit in the cabin somewhere, drilling four holes in your rear bumper (hole saw is often included in the kit) and running the wires from the bumper into the car. The control unit probably has a cigarette lighter attachment, too.

If not, I'd probably speak to your local auto-electrician or alarm/audio installer as they are going to be far more qualified to give you a useful price than anyone on here.

Cost is about £150 for a kit with colour coded sensors and a display (rather than a simple buzzer)

I had one fitted a few years ago, only cost two hours labour, bought the version that just stuck to rear bumper, so no need for drilling.

You paid 2 hours labour for someone to stick 4 sensors to your bumper? I'd pay a max of 1 hours labour to fit a drilled version!

I bought a set for my MK3 Mondeo, out of the box and fitted in just over an hour, i paid £20 for a set of 4 sensors with led display\speaker from ******s, the set should have cost £40 but was in half price sale, very simple to install and setup.

I pre- drilled small holes in bumpers even though the kit came with a smallish drill bit, it made it easier.

You wire it in to the lights, so you get power from the reverse light cable, i ran the cabels through the air vent flaps in the boot\rear bumper so i didnt have to take the light out, as, on the MK3 mondeo at least, take the light out, you usally have to seal them back in otherwise you get a water leak in the boot.
