Hi,

I have a work PC (as spec below) and one or both of the WD drives is making a horrible noise and needs to be returned. Unfortunately I can't afford the downtime so I'm thinking this:

1.
Buy a 1TB drive and transfer (image) everything from the current RAID0 setup to it and run the PC from that drive until HDD's have been sorted.

OR

2.
Buy two more drives and raid 0 them but then raid 1 that with the original to get the copy then pull the original raid0 leaving a new raid 0 pair.

I think my preferred option is 2. but is this possible?

Also, would they have to be another two 500GB or could I go with 2x 640's or even 2x320's (appreciate 2x320GB is smaller than total riad0 of 1TB but thought I'd throw it our there)?

Many thanks as always,

Zeb.

I'm not sure about being able to raid1 them after building another raid0 but if that doesn't work then you could always raid0 the new drives and use ghost software to copy across a full image of the original raid0. You don't have to buy the same size drives that have now but they do need to have at least the same amount of space as you are using, ie if you're using 700GB of your current setup, 2 320GBs ain't going to work.
