Returning faulty monitor, what now?

Hi there,

I am in the process of returning my Dell Alienware AW3423DWF monitor. It looks amazing, but it has a whine sound which makes it difficult to keep. Anyway, I am now being more cautious about what I do next. I have liked the OLED penel in the dell, but I do a lot of normal office stuff on the PC, so static images might be an issue over time (although Dell must be pretty confident it wont be an issue as offer 3 year warranty) so maybe I should avoid oled for now. I have liked the ultrawide format, but I think a more traditional 4k 16:9 aspect ratio might suit better. I think I would like
  • Gaming (Everything from football manager, to halo, to dark souls)
  • Office use too
  • 4k - I think I want this, but not a deal killer.
  • Not sure on screen tech
  • Reasonable response times
  • 100x100 vesa compatible useful for my monitor arm
  • For use with PC, rather than console.
  • I dont need speakers.
  • I have liked HDR, so I think I would want that too
  • No desire for RGB
  • 30"+ ideally
Currently I have a MSI 3080, i9 9900cpu, 32gb ram. I run dual boot with win 11 and linux. Around £1k budget.

Any tips on what to aim for? Thanks for reading.

I share your dilemma without having bought the AW3423DWF, having had some reservations.

I have these bookmarked in the 32" category:-

- Dell G3223Q
- Samsung G85NB
- Samsung G75NB
- Gigabyte M32U
- LG 32GQ950-B.AEK
- CORSAIR Xeneon 32UHD144

but the respective prices of each panel/tech compared to an OLED/AW3423DWF has me leaning on waiting on price drop on those above or holding out for a 32" 240Hz OLED.

(Although the LG 27" UltraGear 27GR95QE-B is tempting but not sure if want a smaller monitor)

Thanks for the reply, I have done a little reading around today. I think G7 seems like a good option. Need to read up on the Gigabyte.

I am scheduled to send the AW3423DWF next Tuesday and regretting it a bit. Its lovely panel and games look excellent. However, whine issue aside, I think a non-OLED is probably better for my situation.

I love my Dell G32232 4K - The colours are spot on even with no tweaks and i got £100 off

I had coil whine on mine, its not there anymore
Thanks. I found out I can reduce it if I turn on the RGB and switch them to white, seems weird to me why this works. I reset the monitor earlier on this week, and forgot to switch the RGB back, later on I noticed the whine again.

Neo G7 was the top of my list before I stumped up the cash for Neo G9
The Neo G9 looks so mad, I am not sure I could fit it on the desk. Well, it might fit, but my speakers would not.
