So I need to return a product to Maplins but I've managed to bin the box in all my stupidity (Checked bins, its gone). The site says it must be in a box apon returning, is it even worth trying to return it or is that a lesson learnt.

Product is a digital to analog converter & optical cable at £60

isn't their fault unless its faulty. once open it is classed as 2nd hand.
guess you can sell it on forum market or ebay.

I never get why peeps through out the boxes so soon, Its PIA to keep them I know but at least keep a few months to make sure its not a dud that dies in short time.

I put them in the loft inside each other if possible.

And for PC parts its good to have the boxes to sell them on as boxed.

I usually keep them, the area under my bed is FULL of old boxes.

Sods law, the time I throw one away I need it. Glad it wasn't something too expensive.

Why would you even take it back away? You obviously needed it when you went out and bought it, just because your situation has changed doesn't mean you can return it for a refund.

Maplins is a business, not a rental service.

Tell that to every woman who's been out and bought something to wear for a 'do' and then taken it back. Yes women... all of you! :p

I'm quite surprised people do this. I suppose it depends on the shop though, some are fine with this sort of thing, others aren't.

Richer Sounds have been good for this sort of thing in my experience though. I bought an amp from them a little while back, then I spotted a better one in their clearance section. They were more than happy to take the original one back that had been opened, and swap it for the other from clearance (which strangely was actually brand new and unopened).

^^ I was in a shop the other day where someone was kicking up a right fuss as they'd bought a suitcase, opened it up and found rubbish in there from someone else who'd obviously bought it, used it on holiday then returned in rental style and not even bothered to remove the stuff they didn't want... pretty scummy.

That is quite scummy yes.

But it's also odd that they bought the suitcase without opening it up first!

When I worked for Sainsbury's, a few times we had customers return expensive electrical items (an iPod Classic occasion, a PS3 on another) as faulty, but they'd actually just put their old broken item in the box instead.

I keep the boxes for all my PC components and any expensive electrical items I buy for the same reasons as you.
If something dies and I need to RMA it then I have the original box ready.
If I upgrade and want to sell the old part I can get more for it boxed.

My partner isn't happy about me keeping all the boxes and constantly asks when we can throw them out so I have to explain why I keep them every time :(. They don't even take much space really, smaller boxes inside bigger boxes and they all fit on top of our bedroom cupboards.
