If any of you have unfortunately had to return items to OCUK, (RMA or DSR) which courier / delivery service do you use - they seem to vary quite a bit in price.

Also do you insure the item for the full value or take the risk?

Any recommendations?

If it's a largeish item, you may be able to request OCUK pick it up, anything that's like over 70 quid tends not to be worth sending RMSD as it's usually big and costs a fair chunk.

Anything like mouses etc, RM 1st class.

I returned a graphics card using collect plus. It was cheaper than RM due to the dimensions pushing it into the next RM category, but it took an age to get to OCUK

When I returned my h100i I just used Royal Mail - cost £8.50 or something like that and got there the next day.

Royal mail if it's small if it's anything bigger I use myhermes as it's the cheapest courier currently. Around £4 for a biggish parcel.

There is a reason they are cheap though, certainly would not trust or use them for anything expensive or breakable.

DPD are obviously very good.

I sent a mobo back on Friday via MyHermes, cost £6.20, insured up to £100 and signed for. Arrived at OCUK this morning.
Never had a problem with them.

Hermes (parcelnet), my wife was a courier for them. Basically all the couriers are self employed, and only get paid per parcel they deliver. If they fail to deliver a parcel (get to the address and the person isn't in etc) they do not get paid.

So, parcels are thrown over walls, gates etc. I have also seen exactly how parcels get treated down at the local depots, thrown off lorry's, kick around etc. To be fair, quite a few of the delivery companies employ self-employed couriers at the end of line deliver point, it's just I know how hermes treat their parcels.

Any courier you go to you'll find people throwing stuff around, some are more discreet then others. Example citylink their pick up area has a window straight into the sorting area, can just stand there and watch people chuck parcels around without a care in the world.

Yeah, you are right, citylink are just as bad, we used to use them at work.

Should also mention that you are not covered by the insurance on Hermes either, they don't insure electronic goods, and PC components are included in this.

DPD didn't do themselves any favours last week.

GFX Card ordered on Wednesday (next day delivery), it was returned from the depot back to OCUK due to damage!
OCUK sent another card out on Thursday for delivery on Friday between 14:49 and 15:49 - driver (Lorenzo) was delayed, tracking status not updated until 20:20! - rescheduled for Saturday when it finally arrived.

Go to Interparcel and put in the weight & dimensions of your parcel, and see what pops out for the kind of delivery you want.

I usually insure, just in case. 4 kilos of boxed up PSU cost me about £12 for next day delivery, including £100 insurance and a UPS man collected the same day I booked.
