*Note to mods : This is not a medical advice thread - I have already sought medical advice on a few occasions!
So, I got into 5x5 stronglifts a few years back and started to make good progress but due to lack of sleep, I couldn't keep up with it. Seemingly unrelated (after a really hacking cough), 6 months later I developed an Inguinal hernia and this took a good 9 months from diagnosis to having the operation done.
Anyway, they didn't give me keyhole surgery - instead just sliced me open. In short, it was the most agonizing thing I've experienced and recovery was slow (although I didn't take too many pain killers so that wouldn't have helped!).
Just wondered if anyone else has had any experience with an Inguinal hernia (NOT done via keyhole) and has returned to weights - it's been a year since I had the operation and although I have lifted things like bags of soil/sand to do my garden up - it's not quite the same as a regular workout.
I have spoken with two doctors, who have both given me very different opinions - one saying "No problem it won't rupture", and another saying "I would be very careful, you could end up back where you started".
I'm also thinking of starting Muay Thai (my son does it), but don't I have to do some kind of weights with that to bulk out a bit?
Again, not really after advice but looking for anyone who may have been in this situation - I guess most people just get on with it, but I really don't want to go through that pain again!
