Returns, where do I stand!?

Okay so purchased a laptop yesterday,
It arrived today,
I hate how it looks (hidden well on website - looked better than IRL)
So anyway, I sign in, setup, install my antivirus, I am now on hour 10 of windows update and have not done a single thing!!!
It's inferior to my chromebook in everyway, from looks to speed to everything, I really though I wanted to go back to windows but instant regret, and in no way trying to offend anyone as I do respect and acknowledge windows has a hell of a lot going for it but just not for me anymore...

I want to take it back for a refund, but according to the policy it is now "used" even though its literally BRAND NEW not a day old yet...

Where do I stand?

If I do a full system recovery, and say its unused will they be able to tell?

OR

I could say its faulty as it has been updating for an unreasonable amount of time?

Its a hell of a lot I spent and I really want my money back...

Anyone have any good advice?

Thank you

Hit and miss on taking it back whether they will notice it has been used - also some places will stick to their guns about opened software some won't.

If you return it as faulty they will almost certain try and push for a replacement and within their rights if you go for something like it taking an unreasonable amount of time updating.

Before you make a decision about performance though I'd try removing any and all antivirus software :( I've seen so many systems with bundled Norton, etc. that are slow as **** for the first few hours until the AV has done its thing and even then have performance considerably compromised especially as some ship with like 2-3 conflicting security suites, etc. installed out the box.

EDIT: Windows 10 is **** and especially updates with Windows 10 are **** and personally I don't give a toss if that offends anyone :s

Return under distance selling regulations?

No reason needed to do so......refund must be given including postage costs.

Never used it myslf but its there for a reason such as this.

CCR still has exemptions when it comes to opened software (sometimes covering PCs and laptops, etc.) and technically they can even have grounds for reducing the refund though many don't.

What would you say if it was you? Go for the reset PC and say brand new unused or be truthful and say set it up and had a change of heart?

largely irrelavent to be honest.

personally I would factory reset and just return it, i'm not sure you have to be *that* specific for return reason under DSR. :)

Yeah thats what I'm thinking, just worried they have some way of knowing that I "installed software" even though it'll have been wiped...
So when they say why do you want to return, what should I respond with?
Whats DSR sorry?

Sorry if I come across lame, this situation is making me really anxious =(

DSR no longer exists - its CCR now which is similar but some differences (mostly gives retailers more power to reduce the amount of a refund :s).

Can't really tell you what to do - pretty much any of your options are kind of hit and miss depending on how closely they can be bothered to inspect the return and what the specific store policies are, etc.

Some places the staff really can't be bothered and just process the return for an easy life other places are kind of hard on it.

good to know, will investigate CCR further.
not that it will effect me as I cannot remember ever having returned something unless it was faulty, I research most stuff quite a lot before buying so I know what i am getting in to :)

Yeah true, so when they say "why do you want to return" - I'm just gonna say I had a change of heart and didn't like it in the flesh...
(and the system will have been reset to new)
So hopefully when they get it back it will look untouched?

Chrome will likely have a small slowish (but much faster than hdd) ssd but the slower bigger windows will probably ly be on a normal hdd.. Next time buy a laptop with ssd... No ssd = junk super slow

I don't get it either, if it makes you feel better. Mods should clamp down on posts like those 2 from him. It's irrelevant and not even funny irrelevant.
just LOL.

I didn't actually post the first quote by the way.
its an "in-joke" for this forum, if you spend enough time on the forum (normally GD) you will get the gist. ;)

The guy comes in here bleating about windows being inferior in every way... but hasn't gotten past the update screen and "hasn't done a single thing".
Wants to go to back chromebook. All in a first post.
Hard to take seriously.

Also, you can't claim something isn't funny when you've just said you don't get it.
