Reverse number lookup

Ring it? and ask them?

Since what you're doing doesn't sound particularlay kosher anyway, I'll suggest another dodgy alternative. Like the movies, say they've won something, and say you'll post it right out to them, or send them an information pack or something.

Not that i'd condone doing the above, but it's hypothetical isn't it.

I used to work for BT and was approached about reverse number searching a few times, (I was even offered a carpet for a number once, never asked if it included fitting :D ), Never gave anyone the info though. They used to show us videos of what happened when people got this info. They used to involve shady looking characters and the police.

They took it VERY seriously.

Out of interest did you actually have the information in front of you or is it locked away on a higher level?

During the 80's I had to make contact with somebody and only knew the address (they need a surname too). I was eventually put through to a higher level and the boss rang the people and asked them if it was alright for me to ring them.

Chris.

It is hypothetical. I'm just interested in how these PI's get the information. I'm also interested as to why it is so simple in the US and so illegal here.

Because the US has freedom of information laws and we have the Data Protection Act?

(I believe it is the Data Protection Act that made reverse lookups illegal, though I may be wrong).
