Review on Ryzen 3600 and 3600x

3600X is not £200! It is £239.99

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £239.99 (includes shipping: £0.00)

8700K is not £400 anymore for a 2 years old CPU, you can get second hand 8700K for £200 but I cant give you competitor links.

3600X has very poor OC with voltage too high while 8700K has plenty OC headroom.

Overall 8700K still has better value.

Ofc a used 8700k is better value then a new 3600 and 3600x used parts normally are. Most people are confusing the 3600 and 3600x though since the 3600 is the only odd one out on ryZen 3000 series with no x:)

But apples to apples ocuk have the the 8700k priced at 398.99 at the moment second hand cpu carry a lot of risk and no warranty and lots of other things people have to consider you could pay 200+ pounds of paperweight in a few months with no warranty.

Mans let’s be honest we are comparing the last intel flagship cpu vs bottom of the stack new ryZen cpu when do you expect the new intel 1060 i5 cpu to outstrip the 8th gen flagship I very much doubt it i5 will be a straight 6 core part.

Old or new. Does not matter.

When the X and None X are the same CPU, which they are, you shouldn't buy the X. AMD are not like Intel where the None K are locked, the None X 3600 is unlocked. :)

Used 8700K's are still £300, how is a used CPU of similar performance costing £300 better value than brand new at £200?

The 3600X comes with a decent cooler though, people are saying you should swap out the 3600 one. Can you OC the 3600 to the 3600X level? What does that do for power consumption? Does the 3600X have better silicon? I'm wondering which to buy.

Something to do with the 3600x's cooler having a copper core and the 3600 only having an aluminium one.

Just by the 3600, they both boost to 4200Mhz in games. The 3600X rarely hits its boost speed of 4.4 due to it being for singled threaded apps.

This, and if you like AMD's coolers you can get the Prism cooler for £20, that cooler would actually do a pretty good job cooling an overclocked 3600 and looks great. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-wraith-prism-am4-cpu-cooler-hs-001-am.html

It's about as good as a £30 after market cooler, JayZ2Cents overclocked a 2700X to 4.2Ghz on one and that's a 105 Watt CPU.

What benefits does the X model have over the regular chips? Thinking about getting a 3600 for now while stock gets better on the higher core Ryzen chips.

I got a 3600X instead of a the 3600, boosts up to around 4.15-4.2ghz ish all cores when running prime 95 'frinstance. I could have got the non X versh but I can't really be bothered with cpu overclocking (and they don't overclock very well apparently, but please correct me if I'm wrong). I suppose I'll attempt an overclock shortly out of curiosity but I'll still run it at stock as its plenty fast enough for me

Cheers mate, really intresting video. Been out the loop the last few years. Really used to be into my hardware, but the tiny performance increases from Intel. Amd being miles behind, NVIDA now selling higher end gpus at mental money. It all got a bit boring and I lost intrest.

I take it both come with the same Cooler and warrenty? If so i'd have to be mental to pick the X version.

Same warranty but different box coolers, 3600 with a Wraith Stealth and 3600X with the larger Wraith Spire.

Best CPU Coolers for Ryzen 5 3600 Builds (article dated July 2nd):

He's just picked a list of his favourite coolers, no testing done so worthless IMHO. I would like to see some proper cooler testing done with Ryzen 3000 CPUs as now the main heat source is no longer in the centre of the chip this may affect cooler effectiveness i.e. some coolers like Thermalrights Macho range have convex base plates designed to take heat away from the centre of the CPU, so they may not be such a good purchase for the new Ryzens.

So if one has a good AM4 cooler already there's an extra 200mhz with the 3600X v the 3600 and one might as well save the £50-60?

Also please stop saying you can just get a 8700k for £200 second hand as if they're plenty of them, they're not as I've been looking for one the last 2-3 weeks.
