Revisiting Doom 2016, but now it's unplayable

OK so I did a play through a year or so ago and decided to revisit recently to play again on a harder setting.

However now the game is unplayable! The FPS drops are insane, constantly going from 120 to 30. The game feels like I'm walking in glue.

I am playing at 1440 with a 10700K and 5700xt which was fine last time around.

Anyone else have these problems or know a way around it?

thats really odd, must be updates to the game. have you checked through all the settings to see if they added some stupid new feature that is on by default.

that game was so easy to run that my 980 ti and i5-8600k was playing it at 4K with a few setting cut down

Well I switched from OpenGL to Vulkan and that seems to have fixed everything. Game runs smooth now!
