Over the last 3-4 months, I have been able to roll a nightmare back to the start, then replay it to get a better outcome. Is it just me or can other people do this? I don't do this intentionally as I'm not considered a lucid dreamer by a long shot.

E.g. 1. Terrorist bomb plot:

- original dream: I was at the bomb site and I die instantly.
- 1st replay: I now knew about the bomb, catch a plane, but too late. Was still in the blast radius.
- 2nd replay: again, knew about the bomb. Catch a train, but dream ends prematurely. Outcome unknown.
- 3rd replay: friends pick me up. We survive, but the bomb was still on the news, 120 miles away.

E.g. 2. Formula 1 racing:

- original dream: I take it to the wheel, imminent crash (can't drive IRL).
- 1st replay: same happened but at night time.
- 2nd replay: same, but in slo-mo and I was able to steer safely until the short race was over. I came last :p

Are you saying you can repeat the same dream on subsequent nights ?

I've never heard of this before. I have no control really over what I dream except for two things. If I have been thinking about something during the day, I've noticed that once in a while I will have a dream about it. The other thing which I wished happened more often, is lucid dreaming. Lucid dreams are awesome but I'm lucky if I get more than a handful in a year.

Lucid dreaming, where you know you're dreaming and can control the dream. Many people cannot do this. Enjoy, it can prove very fun :)

I had a dream involving being a lackey on a top gear filming production.

I stole a fast car that clarkson was going to do a review of, then a car chase happened with clarkson chasing in another car and shooting at me with a desert eagle.

Finally he got me to stop, pulled out the desert eagle and shot me dead then I woke up.

The repeated dream doesn't recur across different nights. It's all dreamt in the same sleep session.

Ahhh, so it is lucid dreaming then :-) Yup I'll enjoy it while I can, as it's only been a recent thing.

Butterfly effect? :p

Haven't seen that film in years, but true, true :p I think the repeats in Butterfly Effect get worse each time IIRC.

I used to be able to do this but that was before the internet took away any sleep I had :(

If you get 8-10 hours sleep this is quite easy I used to dream all sorts of things and in my teenage years I could ahem have some fun with these dreams

Didn't have go through the pyjamas though ;)

I'm able to have the same dream on different nights, also the same nightmares and the same waking terrors.

It's odd, very freaky and disconcerting.

I used to have a nightmare about a plane crash although I lived in a direct flight path for 16 years so perhaps this had something to do with it.

:D

I have had and still have this dream from time to time but the ones you can control actually mean you are getting way too much sleep :D or you are young - teens early twenties.

I've had dreams that have been connected to others that I've had on different nights. Had one where I hid the mountain bike I was riding in a hedgerow so that I could climb over a fence on the opposite side of the road to go and look in a building that isn't there in real life. About a week later I was driving down the same road in another dream & stopped to get the bike back out of the hedge & put it in the back of the car.

I used to get the same nightmare when i was about 18/19 where id go into the bathroom of my house and someone was behind the door and stab me:(

I sometimes have audible hallucinations as I'm drifting off. Quite often it's just a conversation between 2 complete randoms, like I'm listening into a conversation that's going on on the other side of the world. Very peculiar, anyone else get that?

I've had variations of the same dream before a few times (and know I've dreamt it before) I'm always aware I'm dreaming but generally have very little control, never had it where I can choose a different outcome of the same dream.

I quite regularly have dreams where I can influence events as I know I'm dreaming but I can't recall ever being able to rewind :p

I become aware I'm dreaming in most of my dreams, usually when something odd happens, ie. I get instantly transported somewhere or someone just pops up out of nowhere.

I've also been able to rewind dreams, the most interesting being one in which I had powers similar to those seen in Prince of Persia (running across walls, slow time). The dream consisted of a short, typical Prince of Persia run followed reaching a room that contained a 'boss' that had some hostages. I had a weapon to use against the boss but it repeatedly defeated me and the dream would restart upon my death. Somehow I manage to defeat it at some point but I didn't want the 'fun' to end so I decided to force a reset. I murdered all the hostages, pointed the gun at myself, pushed the trigger... Only the find out I had run out of bullets! At which point I woke up.
