Does this add on make much of a difference to the visual gaming experience of FSX?

Looking at some youtube videos it is hard to tell if it is worth the money.

To be honest, the difference is there but not big enough to warrant buying it. I'd go for ORBX - that stuff is real quality, no mistake about it.

I'd say it's a must have, it adds so much depth and atmosphere to the clouds that it makes a huge difference.

But i guess it's where your priorities are, stuff like Orbx is great if you fly those areas but it's not so good for people flying heavies, it's not an either/or decision. Orbx PNW + REX 2.0 + Carenado C337H makes for some fantastic GA flights in VFR and light IFR conditions :)

Do not listen to this man, it makes a MASSIVE difference to just about everything, Clouds, Water, Sky etc... All in lovely 4096 textures.

ORBX is also a must have even if you fly heavies, makes so much difference having scenery that looks like it should. They are also developing the UK which will be just lovely.

Thanks for all your replies. I just want to add to the realism of the visuals for a more realistic experience so i think i will get REX 2.0.

Ignore Borsch, totally wrong info.

This adds so much to the game from taxiways to realistic lining. Clouds, water, textures and most importantly real time weather conditions that are actually realistic.

Load up a flight and rexengine will be "REX connected to FSX, downloading weather info, converting weather info" and it then applies it in real time and updates every 15mins. More realistic than the inbuilt FSX one by 10 fold.

I heard Active Sky 2012 is meant to be very good as well, this years edition includes textures so is now competing with REX. Before this year active sky just implemented weather conditions.

REX does make a difference -the clouds are generated using REAL hi-rez photos so at last you can fly with realistic ones. The default ones look like floating goat-droppings. REX also blings up the water and all that sort of thing.

ORBX scenery is just brilliant, no contest here these guys are the scenery MASTERS IMO.

Now of course if youre bangin along at FL490 in your Gulfstream V yes of course youre not gonna see the detail - that fun will start during the taxi-take-off-initial climb-approach-landing phases that bring you close to the spectacular scenery. But the way to enjoy Orbx is to drone along slowly in a helo or a slow prop plane.

Also Orbx has some spectacular freeware - including the entire island of Tasmania. This way you get a feel for what it can do before you buy.

And also: their free stuff is PAYWARE quality, even the smallest airfield has immersion.

Love the REX..

Remember, you run rex, choose your textures, clouds etc. Clicking 'install' will overwrite your FSX textures with the choices, making it look amazing.

You only need to load REX manager again when you fancy a change.

The real-time weather is great also.

It definately adds immersion to FSX. I love it.

It doesn't do aircraft visuals.

Let us know how you get on with the yoke.

I currently use a MS ForceFeedback 2 joystick which is great, but a yoke may be the next purchase.

I too have the MS FF2 which i have had for years so yes i will let you know how i get on with the Yoke.

The Yoke was a decent price from the bay with a hundred quids worth of add ons and i won it for £90.

Result.

REX is an FSX must have!... its truly transforming. I couple it with 'Shade' and ENBseries for some amazing results.

Some images with all three add-on over Horizon's new Scotland photoscenery.
