RGB Fans and how to configure them

It's time to buy a new case, and I quite fancy one of the new Antec C8s, or the upcoming Phantek Evolv. But when I see them on show they all have those pretty RGB fans and - and here's the point - the lights all point into the case, even though of necessity some fans must suck in and some must blow out. Initially I thought the lights must be on both sides of the fan but then discovered this isn't so. So they're either on the intake side or on the outflow side. So how can they get their fans so that all the lights point inwards?

P.S. Apparently I look like Sofia Coppola. I don't much mind but Sofia might take umbrage.

they look their best on one side but are colorful on both sides

you place them the way needed for airflow as the priority

perhaps expensive ones look better than others on the back side i would imagine

You can get reverse options
So you always see the "pretty" side of the fan
That would be the one on the left in dave28 photo
Reversed option fans mean you don't see
The hub/motor support legs/struts
They just reversed the pitch of the blades

Though does mean you have to decide what
Will be an intake
And which exhaust/reverse before buying

Look at phanteks d30 as an example

If you've looked at Phanteks then it's the D30 that have a normal and reverse version, out of all the RGB fans I've had over the years they were the best as no software required and you can daisy chain the rgb connectors, so 6+ fans off one case or motherboard header.

But how noisy are the Phanteks? I've been using Cooler Master Silencio fans the last few years and they're very quiet indeed. I love them, but they're not RGB.

Yeah as with all fans rpm matters
Very rough guide
1,000 rpm should be OK for most fans
Should be reasonably quiet at 1k

And just to point out the phanteks are 30mm thick
Which might cause problems
In certain use cases

Another option
Could be some led strips
Then can reuse your existing fans
Save money too since fans like d30,lian li etc
Certainly aren't cheap by any means

Probably worth looking
To see what thermalright has
Pretty sure they will have something decent
At a lower price than most
Since they do for air coolers and AIO
Only reason I paid out for al120 was the interlocking
And less cables to manage

I second D30's.. i have a bunch of them in my build and the only thing i can hear is the fan whirring in my monitor. They sound quieter than the AL120's i used to use
