Rice Cooker

Just use or buy a multi level steamer as the will do rice with aplomb and also vegetables, fish and chicken too for added useabilty.

I have the older version of this Linky.

6 minutes for 1 portion, 10 minutes for two, no sticking. So easy and much faster than cooking it on the hob.

you're not serious are you?

Modern rice cookers are very efficient and because it cooks the rice arguably more efficiently, you get less wastage compared to the pan method (i.e. no hard crust at the bottom).

Plus, you save time as it will go to 'warm' mode when it's done. Do you really want to stand there by the stove the whole time?

Save your money and learn to cook rice in a pan...

If you do it properly it wont burn or stick :/

You don't need to stand by the stove; stick the rice on the lowest heat and leave it covered for 15 minutes and then it will be done perfectly. Just cover with a towel if you're not ready to eat it and that keeps it warm for 10-20 minutes.

I don't get the 'anti' aimed at rice cookers in this thread. You'd think they were made by Apple!

Exactly! My boss' wife is Indonesian and she uses one all the time. It's a tool which does one specific job very well.

Why use a power drill when a hand drill will do the job? Why use a toastie maker when you could grill two slices of bread and then put the filling in after? Why use a chip fryer when you may as well just use a pan full of oil.

You use a rice cooker to get that authentic sticky rice so its easier to scope in your mouth. Boiling it in a pan takes long and needs constant attention.

I was very annoyed when we got one of these as a gift as it seems pointless, but having used it I have to say it gives perfect results every time and handy when you're cooking a large meal with rice - one less pot on the stove to worry about especially when you know it'll be spot on fluffy and gorgeous :D

Ainsley Harriott AH130 looks prety good, should fit in my compct kitchen ok. is the pot non stick?

Borich
Yup, non stick pot and it comes with a plastic scoop for the rice. Don't use any metal cutlery to get the rice out as it can scratch the non stick coating quite easily (as i found out the hard way).

I use a cheap "CookWorks" one from a well known catalogue based store , cost a tenner I think, I bought two at the time cos I didnt think it would last long. Use it 2-3 times a week and the spare has been in the cupboard for 2 years now.

Stick it in a bowl, pour in hot water from kettle about 2.2 times as the level of rice. Cook for 14 mins in 800w microwave. Jobs done. :)
