My local takeaway forgot the rice last night. At first I was annoyed, but I ended up having a chicken tikka starter, chicken tikka jalfrezi, Bombay potato and keema nan.

I found I actually preferred it with no rice and using the bread to mop up the sauce. Am I the only one who eats it like this or do some of you omit the rice from your Rubies?

I very rarely order curry with rice as I much prefer just a naan or some chapatis

This. I'll cook rice at home depending on the curry, but I almost never have rice in restaurants or with a takeaway. Much prefer the breads! :)

***edit***

Thinking about it - last time I had rice with a curry it was a Burmese chicken dish (sipyan, literally "oil returns", when you cook it the oils return to the surface). I haven't had rice with any other kind of curry in aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages.

I am starting to go this way with my currys. Much prefer to enjoy the main dish and sauce with a lovely naan bread.

Popadoms, starter, rice, main, naan and side dish is to much

Dunno. I really like rice and especially so the special fried rice house specials when i can get them.

Dunno if i could have a curry without it.

Chicken madras with garlic naan... Mmmmmmmmm!!
I never have rice with my curry, because my stomach isn't big enough to fit curry + naan + rice.

Edit: I am so going to have a curry tomorrow after reading this thread :o

The first time I had a curry with a friend of mine he got his naan on the plate, poured his curry all over it and then tucked in. My face =

I always see the naan as a side to accompany the rice and curry as the main 'meal' but will often just have naan but still just dip if I don't want to be so full.

I was pretty surprised to see rice with a curry as being the norm in the UK, given that most curry places serve north Indian food normally. In northern India, it's almost always bread (naan, paratha, roti etc.) with a curry. You hardly ever see rice being ordered, unless it's a biryani or some south Indian dishes are being ordered.

Aren't most of the curries we have in the UK supposed to be eaten with a naan instead of rice anyway? IE, the ones with sauce.

Edit: Said above!

Dont think so, almost everyone i know and i would assume most of the uk would associate curry as in being curry and rice together and never separate. This thread is a bit of a surprise tbh that people actually have it without rice which i think would be considered a tiny minority, well if you asked random ppl it would be considered a tiny minority i would have thought.

Grr making me want a curry now and its too late to make one.
