richard hammond crash

Hope the Hamster is fine and all crying about the car.... Geeze really who cares about the car it's just materials that can be remade and is insured probably for more than it is even worth(first world problems it seems before a human life becomes a priority  ).

Get well soon Hamster

hes alive and well humans heal cars dont :p

It strikes me that it was the wheels locking up that sealed his fate. Therefore, unless there was some sort of mechanical/technical error with the car, he was going too fast and hit the brakes too hard while turning.

So professional he wraps it round a tree.

so every racing driver who crashed their car at some point in their lives isn't a professional?

great logic that
It goes the other way too, how many times do you need to nearly kill yourself before you say "you know what Iam not very good at this"? He should leave driving fast to the Stig because next time he might not be so lucky.

that's a decision that's extremely personal to each person, and it's not for you to say when that point is, would you suggest Niki lauda should never have got back into f1? despite that decision making him one of the great people of the sport?

When James May filmed at my work place I was suprised that just setting up the shot he reversed the car up a steep metal ramp with limited clearence either side rather than get one of us to do it. They all have years of experience driving these exotic cars and in the last series of The Grand Tour they sent Hammond to learn how to drift at the Michelin test center so I would say they know how to handle these cars better than the average person on here.

Average yes, to blast £2m worth of car around tight circuits. No!

There seems to be a bit of confusion as to what Hammond's true profession is.

Hammond is NOT a professional racing driver though.

They're.

I'd argue that they are paid to drive... ergo, professional?

They're not simply paid to drive. Racing drivers and taxi drivers are paid to drive. This trio is paid to present. They are presenters. Not drivers.

If the notion of them being "professional drivers" was true, then they would have to be able to continue their "profession" and be able to make money with all the cameras switched off. This is impossible which is why they are professional presenters, not professional drivers. Driving is not their profession.

By some people's logic: a woman is a professional driver if she makes money from make-up tutorials whilst driving. LOL :D

Or Daniel Craig is suddenly a professional driver just because he's sat in an Aston Martin while making money.

Of course they're paid to drive. You think they'd be in their jobs if their licences were taken away?

They might not be racing drivers, and the driving element might only be a part of their job but they're paid to do it.

don't forget how much driving coaching they've had over the years or that they have entered races. They are far from normal uneducated drivers.

still good job he wasnt to badly injured, wonder how much they will show on the GT.
Bet his wife is mad as hell.

Yep, bet she was counting the insurance already.

He still has had a lot of tuition and drives high performance cars for a living. Sure his profession is reporter but he's far more expert at driving - perhaps car reporter professional would be better. It's still directly linked.
