Rick Stein

I used to really enjoy his shows but then it seemed he was cooking fish every dish, yes I get the fact he is famous for fish but jeez man lets see something else.

"Today I'm going to see how Tequila is made, that will go so well with this fish dish".....Gaaaaaaaaah.

Having skipped through the first episode it's still mostly about seafood unless he ventures inland in later episode, it does have the feeling of i've seen this all before.

Watched a bit, it was disappointing. He seems to have lost quite a bit of his flair. He's getting on a bit though, so don't blame him.
 
My dad died a couple of years ago and, during his last few weeks while he was deteriorating, he watched basically everything Rick Stein had put on TV. Fish was his great food passion, and he loved Rick's very chilled and calming demeanour - seemed to bring him great comfort in his final days.

Will have to give this a watch! Australia's food scene seems absolutely incredible, at least as far as I can tell from watching Masterchef Australia. Would love to visit one day.
 
Rick's a nice guy, I met him a few years back when eating at The Seafood Restaurant.

I do find his presenting style tiresome though, the continual "<insert name of country he's in at the time here> does this, this would never happen in the UK!".

I think I once read he was having an affair with an Aussie for some years before he was rumbled.

I generally like his stuff and find him quite calming so I'll give this a watch.

To me, he always seemed to be geared somewhat toward the ex-pat, or the Brits On Holiday sort... You know, the slightly passive-racist kind who go somewhere Spanish and sunny, act like they own the place or are a big deal around there, and talk LOUDLY AND S-L-O-W-L-Y so the locals can understand them... Same sort of vibe as Michael Portillo, really.
Nothing personal against the bloke himself, just not my kind of entertainment.

Yeah, my thoughts too. He didn't come across that way when I met him but I guess I was sitting in his restaurant stuffing my face with pricey food & wine so maybe he puts on a persona there.

I really rate Rick, he just does what he thinks is great to eat. His curry series was great. Probably the best curries a tv chef has ever made. As in real and authentic.
There might well have been some curried fish in it like :D
