Fill the three, pour into the five.

Fill the three, pour two pints into the five to fill it. (One pint left in the three.

Empty the five, and pour the one pint into it.

Fill the three then pour that into the five to make four.

Easier to fill the five and pour into the three leaving two in the five. Empty the three and transfer the two from the five. Fill the five and pour into the three until it is full (this will pour one pint into the three pint jug) This leaves 4 pints.

I found another way,

If you pour the full 5 pint into the the 3 pint
leaving 2 in the 5 pint
then empty the 3 pint
and pour the 2 from the 5 pint into the 3 pint
then refill the five and fill the 3 until full you'll have 4 in the five.

i think youve got it wrong?

211213 looks like it should be 131221, assuming you are saying the highest numbers first, otherwise it wont make sense when you get to numbers in the hundreds :o

figured it out in 5 minutes, but another 5-10minutes to see that 211213 was wrong, or atleast worded differently!!

etc, each number is describing the previous, lets begin with 1... the next is One 1 (11),

the next therefore is two ones (21) and then we have 1 two and 1 one (1211)

read out how many numbers there are and write it down, convert all words to numbers

.. so 14131231 (one 4 two 3 one 2 four 1) = 14231241

he was the shortest guy in the world and worked in the circus. he goes into his tent and measures himself with his meter rule, but now finds that he is taller than the meter rule so commits suicide. however the meter rule had been cut hence the sawdust.
 
you have a carton of milk of irregular shape, similar to ones from tesco or sainsbury. using a ruler and marker pen and unlimited supply of water, how do you measure exactly half the volume?
