Ridiculous ping yet down/up speeds are fine?

Surprised yours is not the same? It is worse than last night, by a factor of around 6X. However this time there is also now packet loss, and speed has been affected massively.

Even loading websites/streaming is near on impossible.

Same. My speeds are right down, ping is just the same though - ~110ms.

Just spotted this thread..

We have been having this problem for the last 4-5 weeks. So far we have had 2 new modems, they have played with line levels. They have replaced the tap in the street (was like a swimming pool, Line came up 6db (Also the Networking boys are GREAT they have helped more in the last 2 weeks then any of the others)) but still nothing fixes it..

They can see the problem as they plug my modem direct into the tap and get the same thing as i do.. Really bad pings. Ping timeouts and Horrible traceroute.

They think it could be a problem with the SuperHub2 firmware as one guy had a Superhub 1 in his van and he had no problems. So currently have an engineers SuperHub 1 modem and testing that.

Were BS14 if that helps. Iv lost count the number of times iv been on the phone with them but they do seem to be taking it more seriously now.

Thanks for your info Rob I appreciate it. I'm actually on a SuperHub 1 myself with a consistent ping of over 100. As before, it's still dropping after midnight/late at night when obviously numerous people are getting off to bed so it does give reason to their so-say excuse of a local upgrade. It's still inexcusable service in my opinion, I can barely do anything - same as rex; I can't stream without constant buffering, can't play anything online (my team's getting frustrated now, as am I, derp). Don't suppose anyone's ever got anything off their bill when something like this has happened before?

Update: (rexehuk & Rob you may be interested in this) Just got off the phone to them and there's apparently no work being done in my area (BS10). They ran a ping and tracert test and are 'investigating' the results. I can imagine an engineer will be called out soon enough to look into it.

I have a friend in Whitchurch also on VM who's having no issues at all. Also another friend who's parent runs a telecomms business said to get them to change the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) to 9 as that could be causing an issue. I have no idea what SNR is or does, just reading up on it now.

DR_Pingu Well i'm spitting distance from Whitchurch.
This is how it started for me.. They did something their end and said see how you get on (thing it was SNR but could have been booting the power level).. 24hrs later it still the same and i phoned them again.
They sent an engineer and he looked at the pings and tracert i saved and then did his own. That's when it seemed most of South Bristol VM guys arrived. i had 4 vans at one point as they were trying different things and they seemed to work out it was better with the Superhub 1 modem over the 2.
They are still looking at it and i have the managers superhub 1 modem still, with his package (its not a slow one!!!!!) so i hope they are taking seriously.

Let me know how you get on.

Ok, so today being a weekend, and a day I'm not doing a 12 hour day, I was able to see how it was before peak times. It was fine up until it hit about 4.30 and the ping has been over 100 since... They're definitely doing something their end to **** things up for myself and others which is totally unacceptable. *sigh* on the phone again I go...

Correlates to Finners saying they're effectively traffic managing, for some stupid reason.
