Riding with pillion for first time.

You can use me for practice if you want, I was a pillion passenger almost daily for about 10 years. :p

Lots of hard acceleration and braking. Maybe get the front up a few times. Hopefully she will hate it and you can get you hobby back to yourself :)

Seriously though, most bikes I've owned have been crap with a pillion. The exception being the GS, which, with a touch of a button, makes the bike barely notice it.

Just take your time and both get used to it, it's really not that bad.
I took the missus out for the first time last year and it was ok.
I figured I did plenty of hooning around with 2up on field bikes many years ago so the roads should be easy.

Our trip was from St.Helens to Bakewell near Matlock for a dirty nice weekend away, it was pitch black and quite foggy by the time I got anywhere near and I was (still am) unfamiliar with the roads around there so was going really quite slow....there was a landrover with a trailer on trying to get past us at one point.

On a side note - Just as we was about to set off the mother in law said, "I don't know how you can both get on that bike, if something bad happens your kids have no parents"
Well what a lovely thing to say, true I suppose but not what you want to hear.

Don't adjust the suspension until you've been up and down the street a couple of times to actually find out what you want.

On the Tiger I don't change the suspension at all for carrying the wife, it doesn't need it.

Only other tip is if your pillion hasn't ridden before, ask them to not lean when cornering, just to sit still so you have a constant center of mass.

I have a Triumph Tiger 800xc, which should be pretty good bike for having a pillion on. Lots of good advice here, keep it coming. Never adjusted the suspension before, is it important for me to do it.

I've just seen this.

I have the same bike, unless you are a fat **** leave the suspension alone, the tiger has a maximum load of 223kgs, you will probably find that unless you are carrying luggage as well, you won't need to touch the suspension.

My first pillion was a male friend who wanted a ride and was a good chunk heavier than me. Very scary at some points but also fun as they put effort into leaning into the corners with me.

If they need to fidget or change position tell them to do it when you are accelerating or travelling at high speeds. Low speed or slowing fidgeting causes poopy pants.

"I don't know how you can both get on that bike, if something bad happens your kids have no parents"

I do get so bored of hearing non-riders talk when they find out I ride.
It's always , "Oh, yeah, I knew someone who rode a bike once. They died".
They never appreciate it when I reply with all the dead car drivers I used to know...

Yeah it does amuse me. I know one person who died in a bike crash, in the 80s riding like a nutter but he was a friend, but I had 4 friends who died in 1 car crash. Some might say there are more cars than bikes on the road blah blah blah, but 4 times as many friends of mine died in 1 car crash than did in 1 bike crash.
